Presented by the Home Affairs Bureau and curated by Community Art Network, Budding Winter in 2009 – 2010 saw the four parks in Hong Kong (Hong Kong, Kowloon, Sha Tin and Tuen Mun) sparkle with creativity. Local art and design students were invited to transform the parks as the artists introduce visual art and text-based installations and art performances to the areas, engaging the public in a dialogue between art and the natural environment. Also under the big umbrella of “Park is your Mega Playground” CAN was the mastermind behind the weekend programmes to be offered to the public, along with Fringe Club and the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts’ drum and dance programmes. Different music genres and bands injected the beauty of sounds into the parks. And as games specialists and professional story-tellers meandered around the field of imaginations, they came up with more warm-up activities for all park visitors. Also in place were the smorgasbord of visual excitement offered by emerging artists and curators, and free rides to the major or undiscovered art belts in town.
For Budding Winter, Community Art Network (CAN) had played the roles of overall project management; overall administration and coordination; audience development; youth training for Art ambassadors; liaison with involved parties; and collaboration between schools and involved parties.
